Both councilmen thanked their family, fellow officials and the residents of the borough. "I'm honored to be selected as council president and I love working with this group,ä said Fiola. "I'd also like to thank our administrator, Joe Brigandi Jr., because he is truly the engine that propels the ship." "It has been my pleasure to serve for 15 years and now I've been blessed with the opportunity to serve three more," said Cossabone. "My intention is to continue to advance the standard of living for all residents of Glassboro." Mayor Leo McCabe reflected on the accomplishments of the borough in the past year and highlighted the governmentâs goals for 2010. "In downtown redevelopment, we saw construction of the road itself, the roundabout, the groundbreaking for the Barnes & Noble bookstore and the completion of student housing phase I," said McCabe. "We received a Smart Growth award that honored the borough, Rowan University and SORA for our unique project. We were also designated a Classic Town by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission." McCabe said that, in the upcoming year, the borough would see the opening of the bookstore, groundbreaking on a hotel, the completion of phase II student housing, the opening of the new Lets Dance studio and final plans for a town square. He said the borough was also looking at solar panels and alternative fuels to reduce costs and environmental impact. Dr. Donald Farish, president of Rowan University, also spoke at the meeting. "We're working as hard as we can to show as often as possible how the university can be an asset to the community," said Farish. "We're watching Rowan Boulevard develop which is exciting and means we can keep more of our students under our roofs ... with the caliber of people sitting behind me, I know we're in good hands." |
